SSN H2H Battle: Over 25s vs 25 and Under

WITH the upcoming Suncorp #TeamGirls Cup preseason competition set to commence in a few weeks, we decided to cast an eye over all the teams and create over 25s and 25 and under sides. Both sides consist of players on the 2019 roster and the teams are filled with some of the best players in the league.

The Aussies dominated the under 25 side with plenty of stars across the court with the likes of Gretel Tippett, Courtney Bruce and Jamie Lee Price making the squad. Fellow Diamond, Liz Watson was also hard to pass given her impressive form, quick hands, precision passing and general dominance across the court. While youngsters Tara Hinchliffe and Kim Jenner have also made the side thanks to their defensive work and ability to win ball back for their side along with wing defence Jess Anstiss who was an integral part in the West Coast Fever’s 2019 dominance. Familiar faces Jo Weston and Kim Ravaillion were ring-ins to start in the 25 and under side, boasting plenty of experience and skill. In a team filled with Australians, England Roses shooter, Helen Housby got the nod, credit to her accuracy to post and clever baseline drives. Up and coming Jamaican goal keeper Kadie-Anne Dehaney was also included in the side after stepping up in 2019.

Plenty of international players made the over 25 side with the likes of superstar centre Laura Langman and teammate Maria Folau named in the squad. It was hard to go past Jamaican shooting sensation Jhaniele Fowler who scored over 800 goals last season, while 29 year-old England Roses goaler Jo Harten also made it into the side thanks to her accuracy, smooth movement and general netball smarts. The ever-reliable Kim Green was a shoe in in wing attack, renowned for her bullet-like passes, while Ash Brazill earned her spot credit to impressive 2019 form, athleticism and quick closing speed. Up the defensive end South African gun, Karla Pretorius got the nod while her former partner in crime Geva Mentor had the goal keepers position all stitched up thanks to her defensive pressure, clever tips and ability to interrupt the oppositions’ attacking flow. On the bench the likes of speedster Kelsey Browne, Caitlin Bassett, Caitlin Thwaites and Natalie Medhurst round out the squad.
