Joining the Magpies as a fresh recruit for 2020, Ward is a Jamaican defender who will look to add some excitement in the back half of the court for the wounded Magpies. Missing both April Brandley and Ash Brazill, Ward can fill both the goal defence and wing defence positions, likely sharing the roles with Matilda Garrett and Melissa Bragg back there.

The talented defender is able to have an impact despite her light frame, using her long arms to force turnovers. Ward is nimble on her feet and has a high netball IQ, able to drop into the right places and pick off errant passes that come her way. She represented the Sunshine Girls in last year’s Netball World Cup and showed off the athleticism that will likely excite Magpies fans. Ward will offer that element of unpredictability for opposition teams while her hunger for the ball will provide the Magpies with plenty of chances to propel the ball back down court and into attack.
