2021 SSN signing update: 30/9

SUNCORP Super Netball signings have continued this week, albeit at a slower pace, with teams continuing to slide the last pieces of their 2022 lists into place.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds were the first cab out of the rank on Thursday, re-signing South African goal shooter extraordinaire, Lenize Potgieter. Potgieter’s accuracy is her big sticking point, scoring 453 goals at 95 per cent in 2021, also managing 29 rebounds. While Potgieter was widely suspected of leaving the competition, Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said her re-acquisition is a big step forward for the club’s frontline in the upcoming season.

“Lenize brings significant experience to our side and has been a strong target for us in attack for the past two seasons,” Bourdon said. “She has developed great combinations with the attackers around her and we look forward to this growing even further in 2022.”

The international talent is a real leader in the goal circle, and will be surrounded by some talented youngsters in Georgie Horjus and Tippah Dwan next season.

Meanwhile, West Coast Fever has announced its seventh signing, with confirmation that Jess Anstiss will return in the green dress for another two seasons. The versatile midcourter is a crucial cog with the Fever outfit, and another with unfinished business as the squad looks to contend for that elusive maiden premiership.

“The fact we’ve been able to keep a core group together over the past few years has been great. I’m really looking forward to getting to know Dan Ryan and his way of coaching, which is something that’s new and will be exciting for us as a group,” Anstiss said. “I’m also looking forward to getting some more home games next year and playing in front of the Green Army.
